How to hold a fundraising event

As a charity, the GI Cancer Institute relies on the generosity of individuals, community groups and corporate sponsors to help fund our gastro-intestinal (GI) cancer research.

Who can run a fundraising event?

Anyone can run an event. We welcome individuals, families, churches, groups of friends, sporting groups… everyone!

We’re grateful to the many individuals and groups who have chosen to run their own fundraising events and donate money raised to the GI Cancer Institute.

What sort of events can you run?

Just about anything, as long as it’s safe and appropriate for the intended community. In the past we’ve had a mother shave her head, a teenager run from Melbourne to Sydney, we’ve had fundraising balls, BBQs, cake stalls and more. The sky is the limit. You’re welcome to contact us here and discuss your idea.

How to set up your event?

Firstly you’ll need to decide what sort of event you’d like to run. Then decide how you’ll collect donations. There are two options for collecting donations:

1. Collect online donations

  • Set up an Everyday Hero or Gofundraise page  for your own unique event and collect donations online. This option has the added benefit of automated tax receipts emailed direct to donors for amounts of $2 and over. Or….
  • Join an Everyday Hero or Gofundraise event such as a fun run or a marathon. Visit our events calendar for more information.

2. Collecting cash

  • Alternatively you can run your event, collect the cash and send us a cheque for the total amount raised once you’ve completed your event. Please let us know your plans so we can help promote your event through our network.
  • To send a cheque donation for a fundraising event, please download the Cheque Donation Form.
