Hobart, TAS and Newcastle, NSW are the most recent cities to host an Engage Community Forum. Leading clinicians, allied health professionals and people affected by GI cancer gathered in Hobart on 16 March 2016. Held at The Old Woolstore, presenters and attendees of the Hobart Forum shared information on the latest treatments, research and personal experiences of gastro-intestinal cancer.
Highlights from Hobart include Exercise Physiologist Jessica Webb, giving an informative presentation on the value of exercise and role of an Exercise Physiologist in recovery and during treatment for GI cancer.
People affected by GI cancer in Newcastle took part in a lively Question & Answer session during the Engage Community Forum at Newcastle City Hall on 6 April 2016. Professor Stephen Ackland, Senior Staff Specialist in the Department of Medical Oncology at Calvary Mater Newcastle Hospital, also gave a clear and accessible presentation about the latest GI cancer treatments and research.
After the successful Forums held in Wide Bay (QLD), Hawthorn (VIC), Epping (NSW), Orange (NSW), Albury-Wodonga (NSW/VIC) and Gawler (SA) over 2015, further Forums for 2016 and 2017 are currently being planned.
We are also excited to announce that new short videos from the Hobart Engage Community Forum will be available on the GI Cancer Institute website shortly.
