2024 Blue Mountains Gutsy Challenge

Saturday, 7 September 2024

Join our one-day Blue Mountains Gutsy Challenge trek to raise much-needed funds for Gastro-Intestinal (GI) cancer research!

Led by Associate Professor Haryana Dhillon, your adventure starts early in the morning in Katoomba, where you will begin your 15km trek along the Grand Cliff Top Walk.

This exciting route will travel between some of the largest waterfalls in the region. Experience the spectacular Jamison Valley from atop of its towering escarpments and visit numerous vantage points that offer uninterrupted views of the natural wonders of this area.

After the walk we will all gather back in Katoomba for a group dinner at a local pub.

The funds that you raise in your Gutsy Challenge will support the development of new, lifesaving clinical trials that can improve treatment options for GI cancer patients.

Early Bird Price (ends 30 June): $130

Standard Price after 30 June: $185

We acknowledge the Aboriginal Dharug, Gundungurra, Wanaruah, Wiradjuri, Darkinjung and Tharawal Nations as the traditional owners of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

What is included in the price?

The trek cost includes qualified tour guides, a hearty gourmet lunch, emergency first aid and safety equipment, transfers from end of trail back to Katoomba, and all National Park visitor fees.

Where will I be staying?

As this is a one-day trek, accommodation is not included in the cost of the tour. This gives you the flexibility to stay overnight if you choose to, or head back home after the trek.

Is lunch provided?

Yes. We will provide a hearty, gourmet sandwich of your selection which will be prepared by a local deli. This will be given to you at the start of the walk to carry in your day pack. You will need to provide your own snacks.

Do I have to carry my own pack?

You will carry your own daypack which should include sun protection, insect repellent, a rainproof jacket, water, lunch (a sandwich provided by us), camera and any snacks you may like to bring.

How fit do I need to be?

You will need a reasonable level of fitness to walk on the trail. You should be able to walk on a variety of surfaces: inclines, declines, rocks, steep sections and loose ground. We recommend you do some hilly walks before this trip to maximise your enjoyment of the climbs and views.

How much do I have to raise?

A minimum of $900 per participant. We will be with you every step of the way to help you reach this goal.

We will also send you a comprehensive fundraising toolkit and help you set up an online fundraising page which is an easy way to share your fundraiser with friends and family!

What will the funds I raise be used for?

The funds you raise will be used to support GI cancer clinical trials research which can help to improve treatment options and the quality of life of GI cancer patients.
