Relaunch – 2025 CNETS Research Grant Competition for CommNETs Members 

Call for applications

CNETS is committed to improving the quality of life and survival for NET patients across Canada. To deliver on this vision, CNETS has been supporting NET research since 2011, with independent competition management commencing in 2016. Since this time, CNETS has funded thirty (30) NET Cancer Research Grants, with $1.5 million dollars in committed funding through our national program.

CNETS is delighted to announce the continued expansion of our funding program to specifically fund projects arising from the collaboration between the commonwealth nations of Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

This exceptional collaboration among this group of NET professionals has inspired CNETS to support the incredible ideas and commitment of this group.

The second CNETS Research Grant Competition, exclusively available to the CommNETs membership, will provide two grants up to a maximum of $22,500 per project. CNETS invites applications on any NET specific project with no restrictions on topics.

CNETS CommNETs Research Grant Recipients

Note: The eligible applications must include at least two applicants: one from Canada and another from Australia and/or New Zealand. More than one applicant from any country is permitted, if required for execution of the project. For facilitation of the grant payment, the Canadian applicant must be nominated as the PA (principal applicant), and must be an independent researcher with a clinical or an academic or research appointment at an eligible institution, such as a Government-recognized Canadian Hospital, Institution, or University where NET patients are treated or where there is an active NET-related research program.

Eligibility criteria

Relevance of the application to the focused area of Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) research. All NET-related projects/applications will be considered.

The eligible project must involve a clinical trial, clinical or fundamental research project (including animal or cellular models) to examine issues relevant for the understanding of the origin and development of Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), improving diagnostic, prognostic or treatment and disease management aspects, including through nutrition and diet.

The onus is on the applicant to justify the request in terms of their projects’ relevance to the above-mentioned objectives in NETs.

Funding

The 2025 Neuroendocrine Tumour Research Grant competition is open specifically to CommNETs members, to provide grant-in-aid for two (2) projects up to a maximum of $22,500 per project.

We recognize that the grant-in-aid from CNETS may fund only part of the total cost of a project. Hence the applicants are strongly encouraged to leverage the CNETS grant to raise matching and more funds from other sources to conduct a strong project that has direct relevance to the theme of this grant cycle. For the projects with leveraged funding, the applicants must provide evidence of having secured or made plans to secure the remaining funds to successfully execute the entire project.

The project may be of maximum duration of two years and successful projects would remain eligible for renewal of funding in future competitions, subject to the availability of funds and relevant productivity from the previously funded project.

Once a grant has been offered, the Grantee has three (3) months to sign the Agreement; after which the grant offer will be withdrawn by CNETS. Sixteen Thousand and Eight Hundred and Seventy-Five Dollars ($16,875) will be paid upon signing the Agreement. The remaining Five Thousand and Six Hundred and Twenty-Five Dollars ($5,625) will be paid upon receipt of a final report of the project, due to CNETS no later than 31st August 2028.
