Cancer researchers call for you to join them on the outback adventure of a lifetime

The adventure you’ve been searching for in 2020 could be closer than you think.

Dietitians and gastro-intestinal (GI) cancer researchers Belinda Steer and Katie Benton are looking for people passionate about making a difference to join them on the 2020 Gutsy Challenge adventure. The Gutsy Challenge team will raise awareness and funds for cancer research in a week-long trek through the Bungle Bungles in remote Western Australia.

Belinda says that by joining the challenge, you could give hope to the patients she treats every day.

“My biggest motivation in doing this Gutsy Challenge is all the amazing patients that I have treated over a decade working as an oncology dietitian,” she says. “Every day that I go to work I am amazed by my patients and how they cope and push through what can often be extremely challenging times for them. And still, they always manage to have a smile for me!”

“They are definitely my biggest motivation, and I hope that by completing this Gutsy Challenge and raising money to  find better treatments for GI cancer patients I can help to make their challenges that little bit easier.”

Katie agrees – as an oncology dietitian, she wants to do everything she can to make the lives of her patients better. She also has a very personal connection to GI cancer, and knows how research makes a difference to families.

“Having lost my mum to cancer, I appreciate just how much it takes away from a patient and their family, and the impact it can have,” she says. “I am so very grateful that I have the health and ability to complete this challenge and raise awareness and funds for GI cancer research.”

The Gutsy Challenge trek will take you through the spectacular Bungle Bungles, visiting waterholes and caves along a 40km trek. The Bungle Bungles are orange and black sandstone domes rising 250 metres above the surrounding grasslands, forming an incomparable landscape.

All food and accommodation is included on the seven-day trek, which is made up of 2.5 days trekking with a full pack, and 2.5 days with a day pack. There are limited places available!
