Getting Gutsy in the Grampians

Over four days in March, a team of eight Gutsy trekkers took on the Grampians Gutsy Challenge to support new research into GI cancers.

The team was led by GI Cancer Institute Researcher and Board Member, Professor Rob Ramsay, and included oncologists, researchers and those personally affected by GI cancers.

It was a difficult few days, with some steep climbs and rocky terrain, but the reward was the spectacular vistas, spotting wildlife and simply being out in nature with a wonderful group of supporters.

“It was a very challenging and fulfilling experience with terrific people all focused on one goal,” says Prof Rob Ramsay.

“The purpose of the experience is to raise funds and spread awareness of the importance of GI cancer research. A bonus is being nudged towards pushing yourself beyond what you thought you were capable of and sharing the experience with people who have so much to offer you,” says third-time Gutsy Challenge participant, John Ryan.

Gutsy trekker and oncologist, Prof Michael Michael noted that GI cancer research is only way he can advance therapy for his patients, “it will improve their survival and quality of life.”

We are so grateful to all our trekkers and everyone who donated to support them. It is thanks to them that we can fund this lifesaving research.
