Our CEO Russell Conley and Chair of our Consumer Advisory Committee, Jan Mumford, attended the Rare Cancer Australia’s CanForum conference in Canberra this week. This important forum brought together key leaders in cancer research, treatment and policy, to deliver real solutions for improving the lives of rare cancer patients in Australia.
Of particular note was an announcement by Minister Greg Hunt that $13 million of MRFF funding will be directed toward Rare Cancers, which is good news for GI Cancers like NEC, pancreatic, gall-bladder cancers
In addition the RARE SOLUTIONS Report was launched. The Report contains 3 recommendations:
- Local Clinical Trials – Test and confirm local clinical trial designs for future TGA registrations and PBS listings
- Subsidised Access – Use flexible approaches to gain subsidised access
- Collaboration – Improve structured collaboration that provides consistency and standards for all stakeholders
