Turning Steps into Hope

On a warm September morning, 22 fundraisers laced up their boots and took on a 20km journey in the Blue Mountains, with the purpose to raise vital funds for bowel cancer research.

The Blue Mountains Gutsy Challenge was a blend of physical endurance, stunning landscapes, and heartfelt conversations. Along the way, our fundraisers learned about the rich history of the region and the Indigenous peoples who lived there.

Together, this incredible group of cancer survivors, researchers, medical professionals and friends and family members of patients, walked side by side for people living with bowel cancer.

Overall, the team raised an astounding $47,000, funds that will  support research into new and potentially life-changing bowel cancer treatments, giving patients the chance for better outcomes and improved quality of life.

For many, the challenge was deeply personal. Tessa Sloane, who lost her friend Lachie to bowel cancer at just 37, shared:

“Taking part in the Blue Mountains Gutsy Challenge was the perfect mix of physical challenge, incredible views, and plenty of laughter with amazing people, all while raising vital funds and awareness for a cause so close to my heart.”

GI cancer survivor, Amanda Barry also reflected on the meaning of the Gutsy Challenge:

“I was proud to complete my second Gutsy Challenge. As a GI cancer survivor, I’m so grateful to have an opportunity to fundraise for vital research, meet lovely people, and get fitter at the same time.”

We are so grateful to all our fundraisers and their donors for their incredible support.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the Lachlan Kean Foundation for matching all donations to the value of $20,000. Together we are giving  hope to people living with bowel cancer!
