Charitha recently joined the AGITG/ GI Cancer Instutite team as Direct Marketing Lead.
HOW DID YOU COME TO WORK IN FUNDRAISING?
Like a lot of people, the events over the past few years prompted me to reflect on where I wanted to be professionally. I knew I wanted to do something that I was passionate about. I’ve always wanted to help people as well as help nurture positive impact in the world. Fundraising stood out almost instantly, I knew the this was the path for me and took a leap of faith. It’s safe to say I haven’t looked back since!
BEFORE JOINING THE AGITG AND GI CANCER INSTITUTE, WHAT WERE YOUR PREVIOUS ROLES?
Before this role, I was fortunate enough to have roles in both the retails and not for profit space. One as an Advertising Campaign Coordinator at Bunnings and the other as a Direct Marketing Coordinator at The Salvation Army. Both helping me get to where I am now, with valuable lessons learnt along the way.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE ROLE AT THE AGITG AND GI CANCER INSTITUTE?
I’ve always wanted to be in an environment where I feel like the support is needed the most. In this role, I have direct impact on the direction of our fundraising campaigns. It really makes me feel like the time and effort put it really makes a difference, and that’s what matters the most, making a difference in someone’s life. I feel like I’m in the right place to do that here.
HOW HAVE YOU FOUND THE ROLE OF DIRECT MARKETING LEAD SO FAR?
It’s been challenging in a great way! In my time here I have already learnt so much as well as have my eyes opened to the amazing work people are doing to help shape the future of cancer treatment. It’s already been so rewarding; I can’t wait for what’s to come.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE ROLE?
There is so much untapped growth in the organisations fundraising space, I want to be able to help nurture this growth and help our amazing supporters become more integrated with our cause and brand. There is still a lot to come… watch this space!
