Share your story

We are proud to give a platform to stories of lived experience.

At its core, our work is about lived experiences and improving them for future generations.

We acknowledge that responsibility, and one way we honour that is by offering a platform to people who have experienced GI cancer for sharing their stories.

Thank you for thinking of trusting us with your story.

What to expect about sharing your story

What your story can do

Raise awareness of GI cancer among the general public

Help educate on GI cancer on social media and in the public

Feature in a fundraising appeal for new GI cancer research

Why share your story?

Shared stories can help other people who have experienced GI cancer to know that they’re not alone and that there’s nothing to be ashamed of in their cancer journey.

Stories of lived experience help teach people about the impact of GI cancers, especially if they don’t understand what it’s like to have it or take care of a loved one with it – including clinicians.

Stories can also raise awareness about signs and symptoms. People often feel more confident about getting their symptoms checked out after listening to a shared story.

What to expect when you share your story with us

Mostly, we converse together.

We’d like for you to know who you’re telling your story to, so when you reach out to us, the Communications team – that’s Erin, Hanifa and Sisse – will organise a time for us to get to know each other, either in person or over a call. You can learn about our team here.

After that, we can send you our Story Consent Form for you to fill out. This is a form that will tell us how you want your story to be told, and for how long. You can ask us what it looks like, if you’d like. You’ll always be asked for permission every time before we put your story somewhere new.

Then, we’ll schedule a time when you can tell your story. We can help guide this storytelling session with some questions, which we’ll send you beforehand.

We’ll keep you updated on how your story is going. For example, if it was used in a fundraising appeal, we’ll let you know how much money it has raised.

More questions? We’re happy to answer! Give us a call or email us.
